24 Students in year 9 participated in a judicial awareness day with a Crown court Judge and volunteers from the ministry of Justice. The students investigated the role of jurors and judges in criminal cases and looked at what makes a good witness in court. They identified some principles of cross examination and used real case studies to practise playing the role of Jurors. There was also an investigation into the effects of sentencing on victims, defendants and family members.

The feedback from the facilitators was that it was

‘A brilliant day today at City Academy. The students were so positive and an inspiration. They certainly have drive and determination to be successful in their future journey in life’
